February's Message from Pastor Jon O. Gallatin

As we begin the month of February that means the season of Lent is right around the corner. This year lent begins on February 18TH with Ash Wednesday. On Ash Wednesday we will be marked with ashes in the sign of a cross to remember we are sinners who are only saved by the cross of Christ with the giving of His grace and forgiveness.
Lent is a time we focus on our sinful nature as humans and see our need for Christ. Lent shows us and reminds us why Christ went to the cross. Christ went to the cross for you; Christ went to the to give you what you cannot earn for yourself which is forgiveness and salvation. Lent again reminds us of our need for Jesus and the love He graciously gives to us because we are His children.
Lent calls us to a time of prayer and repentance, a time to remember what Jesus went through for you, to assure you will be taken care of in the life to come. This Lent I encourage you to take some time in prayer and bible reading and give thanks to Christ for going to the cross for you so you may live forever in His presence.
I do want to mention I will be leading a bible study during the season of Lent starting on February 22nd and going for six weeks concluding on March 29th . The study is going to focus on the Gospel of John and will run from 2:00 to 3:30 in the afternoon. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the narthex.
